Breaking Down 4-star Dual-Threat QB Brandon Harris' Final Three Schools
By Andrew Kulha on July 8, 2013

Brandon Harris is the No. 2 dual-threat quarterback in the nation, according to the 247Sports composite rankings, and he's ready to decide between his final three schools on July 18th.

Gary Laney of ESPN.com (ESPN Insider subscription required) reports that Harris will commit to either Ohio State, LSU or Auburn on the 18th:

On Monday, he announced that the final three schools he's considering are LSU, Ohio State and Auburn. He'll pick which one he'll attend at 2 p.m. on July 18 at Parkway High School.

That list is whittled down from the seven he said he was considering after his high school's spring game in May. Texas A&M, Alabama, Baylor and Ole Miss were also on that list. Here's why Harris said his final three made the cut:

Ohio State: "Urban Meyer. And their ability to develop quarterbacks."
LSU: "A top 10 program every year."
Auburn: "Same thing (as Ohio State). Gus Malzahn and his ability to develop quarterbacks."

Harris plays for Parkway High School and hails from Bossier City, La. He's the No. 7 player from the state, according to the 247Sports composite rankings, which says a lot considering the talent hailing from Louisiana in 2014.

According to Laney's report, Harris considers the three programs "tied."

Here's a quick breakdown of each school in regard to Harris.

    Ohio State

    Hi-res-6757478_crop_exact Jeff Hanisch-USA TODAY Sports

It's obvious that the prestige of Urban Meyer plays a huge role on the recruiting trail for Harris. And as he states in Laney's report, Meyer has a track record of producing great quarterbacks, like Tim Tebow and Braxton Miller, who could be one great season away from being a championship-level quarterback.

Harris would also fit Ohio State's style of play.

He said that "he's not afraid of competition," per Laney's report, so the presence of 3-star dual-threat quarterback Stephen Collier shouldn't have an impact.

    Auburn

Hi-res-7284006_crop_exact John David Mercer-USA TODAY Spor

Gus Malzahn should lead Auburn into a brighter future, thanks to his explosive offensive system. Harris would be able to throw the ball a ton and use his abilities as a runner in Malzahn's offense.

Remember what Cam Newton was able to do in his scheme? Harris has the potential to play that same style of football.

Auburn hasn't landed a quarterback yet, but Harris would have players like 2013 4-star quarterback Jeremy Johnson and dual-threat QB Nick Marshall in front of him.

Malzahn and his staff have been great on the recruiting trail, so Auburn has a good chance.

    LSU

    Cam Cameron

LSU is Harris' home-state program, and it's true that the Tigers are consistently one of the best programs in college football. And with Cam Cameron calling plays, LSU's offense should gain an explosive factor next season. But it's hard to see the Tigers straying far from the power running game brand of football that they've become known for.

Harris could be a playmaker for LSU, but would he fit the system?

LSU also brought in two quarterbacks last cycle. Though competition won't be a factor, that plus the scheme could work against the Tigers.

Laney does point out that LSU could finish with an epic receiver class, but that may not come into focus by the time Harris is ready to make his decision.
