Latest rule change: DUMB

I read where college football is putting a new rule in where QB's cannot spike the ball anymore with less than 4 seconds left on the clock in order to stop the clock and run another play.


Has anyone else heard about this? I read about it on another board, but there wasn't a link to any article.

That and I seem to remember someone proposing a rule change that the clock will no longer stop during the final 2 minutes of the 2nd or 4th quarters for player injuries, to prevent players from faking.

I never saw a confirmation of either of these rule changes, though.

Saw an article that I can't link because I'm on my phone that confirmed versions of these have passed.

When a ball is spiked there will now be a 3 second run-off of the game clock.

When a player goes down with an injury in the final two minutes of either half there will be a 10 second run-off of the game clock.

Those actually sound rather fair.

CFB does need to implement an NFL style running clock, especially when players go out of bounds (unless in the last few minutes of each half) or after first downs.

I like the injury one, but I don't really see the need for the spike rule. What's that trying to stop?
