Yeah, he's supposed to be an interim head coach, and you don't usually fire interim head coaches, but does anyone out there really think it will get better for the Hogs with John L. Smith on the sidelines? With 4 straight losses, should Ark pull trigger and fire John L Smith now?

i dont think they want the name Petrino next to their HC title now. i think thats why JLS gets the year then he gets canned. hope for his sake he has a 25 million dollar buyout LOL

Re: With 4 straight losses, should Ark pull trigger and fire John L Smith now?

He is an interim coach. I'm not sure what good firing him will do. If doesn't send a good message to perspective coaches, it only makes the fan base happy. If I were a coach looking for a new gig, watching a potential employer fire their interim coach would not bode well in my choosing them. If Arkansas can't make it ten months when things get bad then I would be thinking twice about picking up my life, my wife, and kids to move into a potential ****-storm of rebuilding and high-ass expectations. Arkansas is not Alabama. 8 wins a year are not automatic by virtue of the school's name. Blue Chip players, do not just fall out of heaven into Little Rock. Coaches have to recruit and coach their asses off to get to 10 or 12 wins. That's not a slap at the Hogs, it's just the truth. I lived in Arkansas for 4 years, they are my second school so please don't think I am bashing them. I just want to bring a little perspective. This same truth can be spoken about every school in the SEC not named Alabama, LSU, Georgia, or Florida. It's just the way it is folks.

In short. Keep you coaching search quiet. Let JLS finish his contract and allow the AD to go out and find the absolute best coach without the fans and media following your every move and decision. There is no hurry, firing JLS now will only insure that the AD is rushed into making a new hire before he has a chance to talk to every candidate he wishes. Hell he can't even start interviewing until after all the potential candidates finish their seasons.

I don't see the point in canning him now. Granted he should be fired and he will be but you don't gain anything by firing him now. Just go ahead and start looking for a coach now. Everyone even Smith knows he's done.

I would announce that Arkansas will not be renewing his contract at the end of the year and is officially looking for a new head coach but that Smith will finish out the year.

I have one feller trying to convince me that JLS will be reassigned tomorrow, and Butch Davis will be hired immediately.

    I don't know.

I doubt it. I would like to stab him in the face though.

Hopefully they are getting a great replacement lined up.
