SEC getting rep in St. Louis newspaper about the number of Olympians from the SEC

Decent article about SEC athletes competing in the London Olympics in the St. Louis Post Dispatch.

    http://www.stltoday.com/sports/olymp...a4bcf6878.html

    Fair use quote:

"If the Southeastern Conference were a nation, it could boast one of the largest delegations at the 2012 London Olympics: Including Mizzou product Christian Cantwell, the 2008 silver medalist in the shot put, 173 former or current athletes or coaches representing member schools will be participating in the Games."

It goes on to say that 13 of the current 14 SEC schools will have representation in London at the Summer Olympics. Who's slackin'? And, whoever is slackin' can I get a Mizzou post icon to replace theirs?

SubR, this post would have been a good one to include in the thread that had already been started about the SEC at the Olympics.

Who are you talking about? Ashton Eaton? Oregon track is notoriously good but not this Olympics.

What's the point of a sub forum about the Olympics if you can't post multiple topics in it? Feel free to cross post the link though if you want.

I'm only speaking of Eaton, not the entire Oregon squad (though they have Nick Symmonds in the 800, too). I'm not a mathemetician, but I'd say the Decathlon world-record holder is the best athlete in the world.

Michael Phelps is better IMO. Dan O'Brien had a world record in the decathlon and failed to clear a bar at the Olympics and ended up out of the medals. But, decathletes are amazing athletes.

Can Michael Phelps throw a javelin almost 200 feet? Or jump 6'6" in the high jump, or 26' in the long jump? Or run 10.2 in the 100 while also going sub-4:15 in the 1500?

Dan O'Brien no-heighted at the trials, not the Olympics. Don't know what that has to do with declaring the best decathlete the best athlete in the world...

That's not surprising..but good for the SEC. I'm rooting for Lochte to pull off some upsets over Phelps.

I know this is not sports related but can I brag about UF's Band? They don't get much recognition but they are the only collegiate band from the US invited to perform in London. I heard they played for the first lady this morning.
