Can we please STOP talking about Nascar being a sport???

When WOMEN are winning the pole and some of your best "athletes" are white guys in their 40's you are obviously engaging in something that IS NOT a sport. Nascar is exciting. The cars sliding around the track and watching them get 3 wide coming down the stretch is really cool. But a sport it is NOT.

Just b/c something is not a sport doesn't make it less significant either. I never have understood why people get so offended when their activity is considered not a sport. I even heard poker players call poker a sport. ROFL Again, if your most talented "athletes" are women and old guys in their 40's then you are observing something that (while perhaps exciting) is most definitely NOT a sport.

The most talented drivers in NASCAR are NOT women. Come on man... Danica Patrick is only one woman and this is her first season. There has never been a woman champion and I don't believe a woman has ever won a NASCAR race. If it was so easy and didn't take an athlete to do it then why aren't we all NASCAR drivers?!

Why some people make a big deal over something being called a sport is beyond me?! Is it hurting you that NASCAR is called a sport... no.

a sport is defined having a competition which uses skill, either mentally or physically, of the participant. im sorry your idea of sport doesnt match. now maybe the difference between athlete and driver can be made, but racing is a sport nonetheless. not many people can drive 200mph for 3-5 hours in 1 sitting. the mental toughness and endurance it requires would collapse or cause a wreck if some average joe athlete.

Nascar isnt for everyone, and im not into it, but i can clearly see racing as a sport. a sport is classified a sport based on the event, not participant.

really, no "athleticism" is required to drive a car. ive never known a race car driver to run a 4.4 40, bench 300lbs, or have a 41" vertical... its not required in their sport.

But why do you insist on calling it a sport??? Who cares that it isn't a sport? It is an AMAZING skill and something I really enjoy watching. I'd never insist on calling it a sport. The fact that a woman could win the pole shows you all you need to know. Women can be good at checkers as well. They aren't the best athletes in the world though. Again, let me be clear: I NEVER once said the skill was easy to master. There are obviously some very talented people in those cars. But there are very talented people playing checkers, poker, and other non-sports too.

When the biggest, strongest, and fastest dominate you have a sport.

So by your definition Checkers and Poker are sports. Fair enough. Agree to disagree.

racing is a sport. board games are not. LOL

    apples and oranges.

heres the definiton of sport: An activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others. if that defines you playing Monopoly, then i guess its a sport.

The biggest, strongest, and fastest do dominate NASCAR. The past 7 years NASCAR has had two different champions. Jimmie Johnson who races for the BIGGEST name in motor sports (Hendrick) and Stewart who has many championships spanning many different race types. These two guys are like the Yankees and Red Sox.

And FYI, Danica Patrick won the pole for the "minor league" of NASCAR called the Nationwide Series. If she ever wins in the big league it'll be a miracle.
