Thumbs up Absolutely thrilled with this past weekend...

This past weekend we took the 10U Muddogs on the road to Jackson, TN to play in the USSSA June Thunder Tournament. Since we had previously won 5 of the 8 tournaments we've played, we decided to push the boys and play up in the 11U age division. There were 14 teams in the 11U age division representing the states of Kentucky, Missouri, Arkansas, Mississippi and Tennessee.

After a lengthly rain delay of 6 hours on Saturday, we finally took the field at 6PM for game 1. The game went the distance with the Muddogs winning 3-2 over the Paducah Xtreme. Game 2 started at 9:45PM and saw the Muddogs jump all over the Jackson Vipers and led 8-0 to begin the 3rd inning. Some timely hitting saw the Vipers cut the lead in 1/2 and the Muddogs were hanging on by a 8-4 score. The top of the 4th saw the Muddogs tack on 1 more run and led 9-4 going into the bottom of the inning. The wheels came off and the Vipers took advantage by putting up 7 runs to take an 11-9 win.

Sunday morning came and the Muddogs took the field at 10AM facing the Henderson Heat. The winner was going to play for the Gold Bracket and the loser would fall to the Silver bracket. The Muddogs left no doubt holding the Heat to 1 hit and won going away with an 8-0 shutout.

The Muddogs entered bracket play to face the #1 Seed (Memphis)Bolton Wildcats. The Muddogs jumped out to a 3-0 lead to begin the game. The lead stretched to 4-0 before Bolton tacked on their first run and the score was 4-1 Muddogs to begin the 4th inning. The Muddogs bats got hot again as 4 more runs crossed the plate and led 8-1. The 1hr 40 minute time limit expired as Bolton was batting and managed to put up 3 more runs before the 3rd and final out. Muddogs win 8-4.

The Championship Game was a match between the Muddogs and #2 Seed Dyer Co Tomahawks. The 1st inning began with 3 Muddogs going to the plate and 0 reaching base. The Tomahawks had momentum and managed to plate 1 run. With 2 outs and runners on 2nd and 3rd, they got hot and some costly errors saw the score reach 6-0 to end the 1st inning. Thinking the Muddogs may have run out of gas; a quick pep talk saw the Muddogs respond with 6 runs of their own while holding the Tomahawks to 0 runs and knotting the score 6-6. This was the 1st crack in the Tomahawks armour and you could see on their face... "could a bunch of 10yo boys beat us?" The score stayed very cose over the next 2 inning and the Muddogs led 11-9 going into the bottom of the 6th and final inning. The first Tomahawk tried reaching base on a bunt, but was thrown out. The 2nd batter reached on a walk, stole 2nd base and was thrown out trying to steal 3rd. 2 outs!!! The 3rd batter manages to battle to a full count until being hit by a pitch... they still have life. After the runners steals 2nd and 3rd on passed balls, a infield single scores a run and they have a runner on 1st with 2 outs. Another walk gives the Tomahawks the winning run on base. A passed ball puts the runners in scoring position with a base hit tying the game and likely winning. Again, a batter manages to work the count full until finally getting a hittable pitch which is a lazer up the line to an awaiting 1st baseman to tags for the 3rd and final out... The 10yo Muddogs take the Championship 11-10.

    AMAZING!

I have spent quite a few nights in Jackson. Congrats on your son. BTW, before electricity I made the South Georgia all star team at 2nd base. My dad never saw me play a game. He had to work.

Congrats on the big win. Hopefully someday we can play in the same tournament.
