Thumbs up Ah, another season of travel baseball is underway...

Little Rocky's team is off to a fast start to the season. Going undefeated and winning their 1st tourney two weeks ago. Last week the team got off to another quick start only to lose in the semi-finals of the USSSA Major bracket game 7-5. I really wanted to win the game because it set up a Championship Game vs. Ringgold, GA who has a powerhouse team. To my surprise; Ringgold lost the Championship Game and finished Runners-up.

This week we're at it again... Go Little Rocky & Mid-State Muddogs.

What age group? If you are talking about Boynton, they are usually good. Our local boys in the 8 year group won the Dizzy Dean World Series last year, but finished 2nd behind Boynton in the region Tourney. That was without one of the best 8 year old athletes in the country, though.

So far we've won 3 gold brackets, 1 runners-up in the 7 tournaments we've played. No finish below 3rd place. We are really blessed with some good kids.

We have also won 3 gold brackets including 2 in a row and we have 2 runnerups in the 6 tournaments that we have been in. Right now, we lead the state in point differential. Are the Muddogs playing in Mt. Juliet next weekend? Just wondering. We will be there and our team name is the Silver Eagles. We are 10 and under. My son is number 34 and plays shortstop.

Hey man... No we didn't play Mt. Juliet last week. We were committed to another tournament with BPA. We're traveling down to Jackson, TN this weekend and playing 11U for the June Thunder USSSA Tournament. We'll get an opportunity to see how good we are. LOL

BTW, we've gotten the opportunity to play the Knoxville Fire and Cherokee Sluggers twice this year. Both pretty good teams and I'm happy to say we're 3-0 against.

I was thinking that you guys were 10U like us. Are you playing up? We got the opportunity to play a great team from Pittsburgh, Pa last weekend and came up on the short end and failed to win our tournament but still feel the season has been a success so far. This weekend will be our last tournament because 10 yr. old Minor league All Stars will be starting. We coach and play Little League as well as travel ball so we have to split the time. However, it is fun to come together with your rivals from the week days to coach and play together on the weekends.

Yes, we are 10U AAA(USSSA) and Gold(BPA). We're working in some 11U tourneys to get the boys ready. We've been lucky and had success at 10U so we need to push the boys.

How does the travel ball vs. Little League work out? I'm not crazy about Little League since they can't lead off, no balks, no stealing until the ball crosses the plate, etc.

I have no problem with Little league not leading off or stealing until the ball crosses the plate. It's a different game and presents different challenges. The best thing about Little League is that hitting the ball becomes a little more important because a team just can't get a kid on and expect to take second easily. A kid with decent speed and has been coached well to watch the pitcher to get a good jump is tough to throw out in travel. Second base is almost a given with a little coaching. However, i have no problem with travel either. It's fun to do both because of the differences and our town has a tradition of success locally and nationally in Little League.
