    Yahoo Sports All-SEC team

    http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketb...g=jn-sec030411

He’s won two national championships and been in the league longer than any of his colleagues in the SEC. Still, somehow, Florida’s Billy Donovan has never been recognized as the top coach in his conference.

    Until now.

After leading Florida to a No. 14 national ranking and its first conference title since 2007, Donovan has been chosen as the Yahoo! Sports SEC Coach of the Year. Alabama’s Anthony Grant was also considered but, in the end, Florida’s achievements in 2010-11 were impossible to ignore.

Billy Donovan has Florida back atop the SEC and hopes to keep things rolling into the postseason.

Florida will enter Saturday’s regular-season finale at Vanderbilt touting an overall record of 23-6 and a 12-3 mark in the SEC. The Gators are three games ahead of Kentucky, Vanderbilt and Georgia (all 9-6) in the East Division standings.

Pleased as he is with the conference title, Donovan is hoping for even greater things in the NCAA tournament, where Florida hasn’t won a game since claiming the national championship in 2007.

Also earning praise for a strong performance in 2010-11 is Vanderbilt’s John Jenkins, who has been chosen as the Yahoo! Sports’ SEC Player of the Year.

A sophomore guard, Jenkins has reached double figures in each of his 28 games and is averaging an SEC-best 19.4 points per contest. Jenkins has nearly doubled his 11-point scoring average of a year ago. He has 16 games of 20 or more points.

Here are the rest of Yahoo! Sports’ 2010-11 All-SEC honorees along with a list of award winners.

    FIRST TEAM

F JaMychal Green, Alabama, junior – Leads the Crimson Tide in scoring and rebounding with 15.9 points and 7.5 boards per game … Also averages 2.2 blocks and 1.4 steals … One of the key reasons for the Crimson Tide’s turnaround … Reached double figures in scoring in all but one game … Has six double-doubles … Had a season-high 23 points against Vanderbilt … Third-year starter is averaging 13.3 points for his career.

I don't know who I'd have gone with for defensive player of the year but the rest of the awards look good to me.

Good list. I like it all except for coach of the year. I just think Grant deserves it. No knock on Billy D. Any other year it would be him, just i think Grant has done a better job.

    Re: Yahoo Sports All-SEC team

I agree with Rash. UF was in fact picked to win the SEC. That doesn't mean that coach automatically wins COY, especially since it didn't last year. Grant really coached his guys up in a surprising way. Donovan had quite a few veterans even. Florida is about where they were expected to be. I'm not sure about AG; they're so much better.
