    Vegas

    I'm heading out west for the BCS Invitational and Vegas is one leg of the trip. Anyone have any advice on the best places to go/things to do?
    I believe in God,
    the Father almighty,
    Creator of heaven and earth,
    and in Jesus Christ,
    his only Son, our Lord,
    who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
    born of the Virgin Mary,
    suffered under Pontius Pilate,
    was crucified,
    died and was buried;
    he descended into hell;
    on the third day he rose again from the dead;
    he ascended into heaven,
    and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty;
    from there he will come to judge the living and the dead.
    I believe in the Holy Spirit,
    the holy catholic Church,
    the communion of saints,
    the forgiveness of sins,
    the resurrection of the body,
    and life everlasting.
    Amen

    Lots. I can PM you if you'd like.
    Where are you staying? That will be a deciding factor. And when will you be there? What sort of things interest you? There's lots of "freebies", not overly long, maybe not in your interest range.

    Re: Vegas

    been there 6+ times myself. Love that city. If you have the time, driving out to the Grand Canyon is a must. Just don't tell the rental agency you're taking their car out there. it's a bit of a rough drive......LOL.

    if you like roller coasters, the coaster at New York New York is solid, and the two on top of the Stratusphere are good as well. They are all probably pretty expensive by now per ride, so if it's not your thing, I'd skip it.

    they have a new city center type mall/hotel right across from Planet Hollywood. It's cool to walk through, but don't plan on buying anything. The shops are ridiculous. There is a better walking mall attached to Planet Hollywood that's fun to go through.

    you can go to the top of the "Eiffel Tower" at Paris Hotel.

    gambling of course. I like the casino at Monte Carlo. Not super crowded.

    walking through the Venetian is fun. It's beautiful. Not sure if you'll have a significant other with you, but the gondola rides there are neat.

    If you're a fan of the movie The Hangover, going to Caesar's Palace if fun to see now.

    that's all I can think of right now. I'm sure D has a ton of suggestions as well.

    Re: Vegas

    Storm, right now I'm avoiding recommending any of the canyons or Mt. Charleston because of the snow. Wouldn't recommend going over to Pahrump for the same reason, so that leaves out the "ranches".

    Best sports book is Caesar's no matter what Steve Wynn claims.

    PH shopping mall is great. Use Hilo Hattie or ABC Store to buy pop/water/snacks. Or shop Walgreen's/CVS for that stuff. Everything else is overpriced.

    Watch, or splurge the $10 on, a gondola ride at Venetian.

    Check out the ceiling at the Forum Shops along with the fountains that animate every half hour. Front one on the hour, back one on the half hour.

    The "dancing" fountains at Lake Belagio

    NASCAR Cafe at the Sahara, whats-his-names country-style diner at Harrah's

    Avoid the buffets at Flamingo/Bally's. In fact, avoid most of the buffets. Out in back of Harrah's is a free shuttle out to Rio. That's the best buffet going! Local favorite, good prices, good variety. MGM buffet isn't bad.

    As Storm said, look but don't buy at City Center. It's gorgeous. It's outrageously priced.

    You can get meals just as good at any of the "coffee shops" at the hotels. Name restaurants have gone to ala carte pricing for the most part.

    Best steak houses are at Harrah's (The Range...great food, super views of the strip) and Circus. Don't let the old at Circus stop you. The steak house is divine and another local favorite. If locals rate it high, it's got to be good. And it is!

    Many if not all of the pools will be closed for maintenance this time of year. Hard Rock (free shuttle from the Forum and other places) might be open.

    Use the monorail between Excalibur and Mandalay. It stops at Luxor too. Other monorail isn't worth it, IMHO. There's a trolley for $1 or $1.50 along the strip.

    Cabs are dam expensive!

    Use the shuttle service to/from the airport!!

    If you decide to go uptown to see the Fremont Street Experience (and that's kind of fun), take the CAT bus. They run along LVBSouth (the Strip). It's $1.50 (I think) one way, exact change only. Use the "express" if possible. 301 route goes north, 302 goes south.

    Cabs are not allowed to pick up passengers along LVB. You have to use a hotel cab stand. Take walking shoes. It's better that way. And take a jacket! It's kind of cool at the moment, a little windy, it cools down at night to the 40s (or lower).

    Lion habitat at MGM. Buy the t-shirt that says "Here human, human, human".

    There will be coupon/activity books in your hotel room or you can get one free at the front desk or the airport. Use them!

    Best "lite" breakfast (Coffee and pastries) is at Bill's, used to be Barbary Coast, on the corner across from Bally's up in front. They also have a great "early-bird" breakfast that won't cost you a mint.

    Go see "Mystere" at TI. It's the oldest, and probably best, Cirque show in town. It's also the cheapest. Most of the smaller standing shows make half-price tickets available at two outlets starting about 2 in the afternoon. Lines form shortly after noon. The one by the huge Coca-Cola bottle is the best bet. Find a show. Go see something while you're there.

    I'll try to get you the link to the calendar of events and get back here real soon.

    I kind of like the first one better, but browse them both.

    didn't realize it would be snowy right now. Maybe check out Hoover dam instead. Not as long of a drive and really pretty.

    most of the buffets are pretty similar and expensive. if you only want to try one, I reccommend the Bellagio's. It's where we stayed last time and the buffet was awesome!
