    Elvis' random thoughts

Just wanted to put up what I am thinking about right now. Monday is going to be a long day.

2006 - Year of the Elvis
2007 - Year of the Oil Baron
2008 - Year of the Fab Five
2012 - Year of the Stud

I'd like to say i have some words of wisdom, but I don't. All I can say is honestly, that really does just suck. Prayers are with you.

That has to be one of the worst things to ever experience. I'm glad you have been blessed with another baby.

    Re: Elvis' random thoughts

So. I have been thinking about fairness lately. What is fairness?

Some will tell you that fairness is whatever their moral code dictates.
Others will tell you there is no such thing as fair. What is fair for one person is unfair to someone else.
In any event, alot of people tell me that it was not "fair" that we lost our son.

I think they are both wrong. To me, fairness is a matter of choice. That is, having a choice. Lack of choice is a lack of fairness. There is a consequence for every choice that is made, good or bad. That is fairness.

So, one year ago Monday I was given a choice. Lose my son or lose my wife and son. The doctors said he had less than 1% chance of surviving. My wife was unconscious at the time. She had told me before that she wanted to go through with it even if she died.

I did not respect her choice. I guess I was not fair to her. I was not fair to my son either. However, I would rather it be my choice and I accept the consequences rather than my family.

To me, that is fair. I would rather have the choice than not have it.

I don't know the details, but I'd guess you made the right decision. Despite what she said the risk far outweighed the reward. (On a mathmatical scale I'm thinking something like paying $100 for a single lottery ticket where everybody else is paying $1. Correct me if I'm wrong.)

I don't have children nor do I desire to, but I'm thinking it's better off to lose an infant at birth than to watch your child grow and show promise and then possibly tragically lose it some other way. Either way, if she survives you can procreate again and you'll both live happily ever after in the end.

Unfair is being put in that place at all. But I think you handled it well.

Wow, I never realized you were faced with that decision. I couldn't imagine and hopefully I never will have to. If I had been you I would have done the same thing. Things happen for a reason and now you have a new healthy baby so everything is going to be okay man.

Fair, unfair...................nothing more than matter of opinions. You make your choices, you live with the consequences. At the end of the day, you do what you gotta do.

Tough choice, I hope I never face.
