Georgia Feel bad for Fox, but...

It appears the writing is on the wall. He's lost this team and his nonverbal communication speaks volumes. Who can UGA REALISTICALLY go after to fill his spot? Is Richard Pitino from Minnesota a good choice? With two huge commitments already locked in for next year needs to be as big a name as possible. I don't think anyone doubts Fox is gone at this point. He did a lot of good things in his 9 years, but you really need to be making the tourney once every 3 here to keep your job.

Gotta hire someone that can keep UGAs monster 2019 class intact. Not sure lil Pitino is the answer with all the turmoil about his dad, but I'm not sure who is a realistic target. But I'd have never guessed Ben Howland in Starkville or Rick Barnes in Knoxville so I have no idea.

Based on what I've read, Jonas Hayes likely has more to do than Mark Fox with the major recruiting improvements from 2013 and on. It wasn't overnight, but the move to get him on staff started a run of steady improvement in recruiting.

I'm not sure that a recruiting class means as much in basketball. There's a major problem if you keep Fox, the players recruited absolutely have to have an alpha, IDGAF attitude to really shine and help the team do well, because of how constricting he is.

Young players on the team are more worried about making mistakes than trying to learn and grow because they aren't given an opportunity to learn from them, they get benched instead.

I've heard rumors Fox handcuffs his staff as well. A big time micro-manager. Which is a shame b/c Pearson from Alabama and Hayes have pulled in some top notch talent. If we could just boot Fox and keep the rest it would be great, but that isn't how it usually goes. Fire one you fire them all.

I disagree in the biggest way. Unless you're a system team (like UVA or Villanova and UGA is not), you MUST have talent to compete at the highest level. Without talent, the margin you have in every game is razor thin and you have to play at your absolute best to win any games. Talent allows for some flexibility and breathing room. A coach that develops players is important but without talent, you're behind the proverbial 8-ball. You can only coach a team up so much if the talent just isn't there.

Alabama is the perfect example. Look at what Sexton has brought to a team that struggled offensively last season. Having elite talent really evens the playing field. Without talent like Sexton (or to a lesser degree Hall, Ingram, Key and Petty), Bama wouldn't be able to rack up five wins over top 25 teams.

I dont see Pitino as an option especially with what is going on at Minnesota off the court. Dont see UGA making that kind of play, not with McGarity at least.

I'm not discounting recruiting at all, but to a point, recruiting doesn't really matter when you have a controlling coach that is too worried about mistakes than letting the kids just figure it out. I'm sorry but while recruiting was good not great, one bust is an accident, two busts may be a trend, and three or more and you're pointing fingers elsewhere from the players and it's all on Mark Fox. Since none of the juniors, outside maybe Ogbeide, fit the way HE wants to do things, he has NO idea of what to do with them and due to that, every one of them have busted.
