Do the Paradise Papers justify some of what JSHD says?

About the concentration of power and wealth and how it is used to warp the opinions of others. When you combine this with the so-called "tax reform" we are seeing which is just another give away to the extremely wealthy, with some crumbs for those who make over $55K, while increasing taxes on those who earn less than that, it makes one wonder. Now this doesn't mean I endorse his crazy solutions...

    https://www.mediaite.com/online/para...es-in-bermuda/

Robert Mercer, the billionaire hedge-funder who has been catapulted into the spotlight as the money behind Breitbart and other right-wing organizations that roiled the 2016 election, features prominently in the newly leaked Paradise Papers.

According to the Guardian, public filings show the Mercer family “built a $60m war chest for conservative causes inside their family foundation by using an offshore investment vehicle to avoid US tax.”

The vehicle was based in Bermuda, a famed tax haven in the Atlantic, and involved eight companies all directed by Mercer, which “appear to have been used to legally avoid a little-known US tax of up to 39% on tens of millions of dollars in investment profits amassed by the Mercer family’s foundation.”

That foundation used its vast war chest to fund a number of Steve Bannon’s media projects — from Breitbart to his books attacking Hillary Clinton — as well as President Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign.

    ...
Now, as you can see, this was a perfectly legal way for a super rich guy to avoid paying taxes. He then used his tax free money to help elect a guy that will make it easier for him to dodge even more taxes. The guy who is President won't even show us his tax returns, so we can't figure out what his personal stake is in the bill he is seeking to pass.

What is most troubling is how this guy uses his tax free money to support propaganda that leads some people who are going to get screwed to support his goal of making himself richer and the poor poorer.

The swamp is not drained and never will be at this rate.

Damn near everything around you justifies what I post. This is just the billionth example of it.

Marxism is how the world works and what to do to change it.

    https://www.marxist.com/history-and-theory/

    https://www.ssc.wisc.edu/~wright/sociology621-2013.htm

It is not like right wing ideologies that are largely half truths and outright lies to justify and maintain the status quo.

It is the sad truth about the world that the status quo drives and keeps out of people's heads in various ways. It is just the common sense perception of things you would have if not for that. It is nothing complicated or hard to understand in large part because it is so obviously true.

Some of what JSHD says has always been justified; this article shouldn't be a news flash to anyone.

He was a liberal capitalist not a Marxist. They used to be more honest about things in the beginning. Funny how that works.

EC, for you to be commenting on others promoting sky is falling conspiracies is like the pot calling the kettle black. Now I understand your desire to do that, but let's not sidetrack this thread, OK?

Because the capitalist system inherently concentrates wealth and power into few hands? I suspect your explanation is far more dubious than this one.

But power is never concentrated in the Communist nations, is it?

The USSR was a vast improvement in that respect on Czarist Russia. Power was decentralized like never before there and most people got to become educated and participate in their society like never before too. It was a big improvement in most respects.

That is why Russians today tend have a very different opinion on the USSR than Americans do.

It is funny how right wing i.e. elite propaganda can distort our perception of reality on stuff like this.

The people in charge have an agenda that is not always consistent with the truth and justice. You got to watch those jokers and be especially dubious about the things they say especially in regards to history and political matters.
