    Guns on campus

So the Texas legislature decided to allow guns on college campuses. Yet this morning I got a message about an "armed person on campus at TCU." I guess maybe because TCU is a private school, they don't have to follow the law. However, it seems to show the absolute stupidity of allowing guns on campus.

    Re: Guns on campus

I want every working class American to have a gun and know how to use it.

That said, college students are under too much stress and too emotionally unstable to be carry guns on campus.

The GOP is once again displaying their lack of common sense and nuance when it comes to public policy. Many of them certainly know better too.

Well the good news is that a state issued college ID isn't good enough proof of residency to vote, but a gun license is.

Are you saying that anyone can bring a gun on campus without restriction legally?

Or are you referring to criminals who bring guns illegally on campuses, as they do everywhere else, despite the law?

It is my firm belief that if you can carry a gun for your country you ought to be able to carry on campus. To think that "a law" stops it from happening is completely disingenuous -- do a 100% vehicle search on the way out from a college football game and the media would probably think ISIS was there.

    Facts
    1. Can't buy/carry hand guns till 21 anyway
    2. Carrying a gun is unpleasant, in general
    3. Kids are far more idealistic; feel less of a need

    Conjecture
    1. The kids that would chose to do it almost certainly feel the "need" for protection
    2. Changing the laws does not change the influence of their parents
    3. Its even more unpleasant to carry when your dress like these kids do

lol. There are some restrictions - and TCU as a private institution doesn't have to comply, but as a general rule yes, if you have a license you may carry on campus. Now the law was passed before open carry was allowed, so I am not sure if that law affected the campus carry law where the student needed a CHL,

You seem reluctant to describe the "restrictions" and what all is entailed to obtain a license.

As "a general rule"....I highly doubt what you're spinning.

Democrats in Texas have severely and in some cases falsely overreacted to campus carry it seems....but what else is new?

    Re: Guns on campus

First of all - TCU has given the all clear. So that is good news.

Second, the restrictions are that campuses are allowed to designate certain spaces as gun free. However, there has been argument about how large those spaces should be. The student - at the time the law was passed - have a CHL. I admit I do not know whether that was altered by the open carry law.

Every college president in the state was against this - yet the legislature decided they know more than those that actually run the schools.

It is ultimately more truthful and responsible to advocate from a position of understanding and knowledge......than from partisan led emotion.

Yet you comment without doing any research yourself.

To me it doesn't matter if it is concealed carry or open carry, the law is stupid and opposed by the experts - those that run the schools.
