    Mike, LSU mascot is racist

You can't make this stuff up. A LSU student has started a petition to change the mascot, claiming it was chosen to honor a Confederate fighting group called the Tigers.

Newsflash, the slave masters were indeed racist. No working class person should feel kinship with privileged slave masters from the past. That is pure idiocy.

Hopefully LSU is officially renamed the corn dogs.

If my memory serves me correctly, it was General Lee who gave them the name when he said that they fought like tigers...

Re: Mike, LSU mascot is racist

Where does it end? Should the founding fathers (nearly all slave owners at one time or another) be removed from all currency, streets named after them be renamed and have their landmarks destroyed. Why was this not offensive several years ago but suddenly is? Everyone gets a high off of being a social justice warrior but no one wants to take up long standing fights that seem difficult... They want their 15 minutes of fame to come from furthering their cause by attacking conventions not approached before... starting petitions and preaching from a keyboard or behind a webcam seems to have replaced building social centers in troubled areas and taking up fund raising efforts for underfunded programs that actually attempt to make a real difference.

All of that time and energy spent on a cause is a good thing but it feels wasted on things like this and seems to drive more of a wedge than build any bridges... at what point will it be accepted by the general populous to stop finding new reasons to hate people and point out differences we didn't even know we had and start focusing on the things that bring people of all races and class structures together bringing realization that despite the sins of the top 1%'s ancestors we are all truly equal and by in large want the same things?

Well. if it came from discredited General Robert E. Lee, a man who's statue was unfit to stand in New Orleans, then you know the name simply must be changed, but nothing associated with our Native Americans, that would be politically incorrect too. "Mud Bugs," yes, that has a nice ring to it: The LSU Mud Bugs.
