Ole Miss self imposes 1 year ban

    https://www.seccountry.com/mississip...postseason-ban

The new notice includes nine new allegations, bringing the total to 21. Ole Miss chancellor Jeff Vitter, athletic Ross Bjork and head coach Hugh Freeze addressed the new notice in a 20-minute video posted by the university, to which it provided a transcript.

Of the eight allegations, Ole Miss agreed that there was sufficient evidence to support all or part of four. Those allegations were:

A prospective student athlete went hunting on private land owned by a booster during his official visit in 2013 and again on “two or three occasions” after enrolling. That access was arranged by the football program according to the allegation, a Level III violation.

Between March 2014 and January 2015, a staff member arranged for impermissible benefits to house a potential recruit, who committed to another school, and his friends for lodging and transportation. Transportation was also provided to another recruit by the same staff member. Those benefits totaled to $2,507, a Level I violation.

The staff member previously mentioned committed a Level I violation by knowingly misleading the institution and enforcement staff in 2016.
The same staff member facilitated in relationships between two boosters and one of the recruits he provided with impermissible benefits. Those benefits totaled between $13,000 and $15,600 and were known by the staff member, a Level I violation.

To the fourth violation, Ole Miss still has not decided if it will contest the allegation that the recruit, who committed elsewhere, actually received any money from boosters.
    15K in benefits. DAMN

NCAA charges Ole Miss with lack of institutional control
The NCAA is dropping the hammer on Ole Miss.

    by Connor Tapp
    February 22, 2017

Ole Miss announced on Tuesday that it has received a revised Notice of Allegations from the NCAA Committee on Infractions that adds eight new charges against the school, including lack of institutional control and a charge against Hugh Freeze for failing to promote an atmosphere of compliance. The school announced the charges and their intent to contest several of them in a 20-minute video posted to YouTube. The Rebels are self-imposing a one-year bowl ban and will forfeit their portion of the Southeastern Conference's postseason revenue sharing.

The charges against the Ole Miss athletics department now total 21, with eight added in the updated NOA. Athletics director Ross Bjork said that one of the previous charges was expanded from the initial NOA but that none of them were related to the incident involving Laremy Tunsil on the night of the 2016 NFL Draft. The next step is for Ole Miss to respond to the NOA and for the Committee on Infractions to set a hearing before rendering its decision.

"We will release the full notice and our response when all parties have filed their respective responses, which will likely be in late May," Chancellor Jeff Vitter said. "At the end of this 90-day response period, the NCAA enforcement staff will have 60 days to write a case summary, followed by a hearing before the Committee on Infractions. The exact hearing date will be set by the Committee."

Biggest thing I got out of this is what the NCAA wants to hammer them with.

A 2 year bowl ban (means players can transfer immediately without sitting out a year) and multi-year show cause penalties for multiple coaches.

    That is career-ending stuff there...

I recall what happened to Alabama. Nothing good comes from cooperating with the NCAA. The Rebels should have denied, obfuscated, and dissembled without any self-imposed penalties.

Right, and Penn State harbored a child molester, but the Big Ten is not treated the same as the SEC.
