Mississippi State M-State logo 2016-2017 Mississippi St. Basketball Thread

Since this board is a graveyard now one thread for the whole season for MSU will probably suffice.

We just opened with a 78-74 win over Norfolk State. Not the prettiest game ever, but these are the types of early-season games we've lost in recent years, so to win this type of game while the team is gelling is awesome.

    My thoughts on this team:

Tyson Carter can flat out shoot. He looks to be the best 3 point shooter we've had in a long time.

Q is picking up right where he left off last season. Looks to be another good season for him.

Kegler also hit a few threes and made some nice plays.

Aric Holman had a really nice game too. Had his first career double-double and had 4 nice blocks. Almost reminded me of a mini-Swat!

No one else overly stood out, lots of young players with room to improve, but you can see the potential.

Howland has a team full of his guys now and no distractions like Newman wound up being last year. I am excited to see more of this team.

It's being reported that Quindary Weatherspoon could be out for the season with torn ligaments in his wrist. What an absolutely soul-crushing blow that would be. He is far and away our best player. Just when it looked like this team was starting to show its potential. :(

Looks like the local papers are confirming it too. This is just devastating. The last thing this team could afford to lose was a first team all SEC guy. Hopefully he can get a medical redshirt at least. Man this is a bummer. When does baseball season start?

Wave&Dawgs I'm not a rumors guy but I'll throw it out there anyway, there ramblings on campus are that Q may play tonight against Oregon State, not sure how. I know the injury was his off shooting wrist so maybe it wasn't as severe as once thought. We really need him, we will also be getting Xavian Stapelton back soon too so if true we may have something brewing soon. It could be just a rumor about Q, but it came from a pretty reliable guy so I decided to throw it out there.

So Q did play and led us to a blowout win over Oregon St. That came out of nowhere but I'm pumped about it. I guess he visited some specialists and they cleared him to play. We needed that bad. I was totally bummed about this season, but I'm all in again!

He makes us a totally different team, I watched this game and everyone plays with much more confidence with Q around. Stapelton will be back this month too, he has some skill, athleticsm and played a lot as a true Freshman under now Head coach of Florida on a really good La Tech team that won 27 games in 2014-2015.

I had to dig to revive this thread. Our young team is gelling and we had another freshman step up today. The UK game Tuesday will be interesting to see how close we can stay. I still don't think an NCAAT appearance is on the table this year, but one never knows. We at least look to have turned a corner.

I could not be happier with where Howland has this team right now. We are at a point where we can at least compete with any team in the SEC now. For the first time since Stans was here, MSU actually looked like they belonged on the same court as Kentucky. Peters is starting to look like a special player, Q is still awesome, and guys like Herard, Stapleton, and Kegler are showing a lot of promise.

I don't see an NCAA bid either this year just because our non-conference was such trash, but I could definitely see us in the NIT this year and strongly in contention for NCAA next year.
