    Post MK down in LA

Thought I would create a blog about life and adventures down in Louisiana.

Only been down here for a little over 3 weeks, but life has been, so far so good. Louisiana is much different than Pennsylvania, where I grew up and spent the vast majority of my life. However, that is perfectly fine. For the last several years of my life I've had the itch to get away from the East Coast. I really wanted to experience a different part of America. Ever since I went to Arkansas on vacation last summer, I had a feeling the South is where I want to be. Glad that I got my wish! The majority of the folks, my coworkers, and just random people in public have been very welcoming, friendly, and helpful. This ranges from getting directions around town to suggestions on local food places to seeking adventure. Right now I feel very welcome, even though I am different from the locals. I sound different when I talk. My roots are different. My culture is different, too. On the other hand, a few individuals I came across, were not as welcoming. But I think that is everywhere. There are rude people in Pennsylvania, too. People look at you like you are inferior or there is something wrong with you because you are different. That is life. However, I told some individuals who I interacted with, that I want to integrate into the southern culture. I want to be like everyone else, but be myself at the same time. My ultimate goal is to be a southerner. Whether that is feasible in the eyes of everyone, I do not know. Some may say that is not possible because I have not lived here all my life. Some may say, yes, you can do it, but give yourself time. Regardless of the answer, I am going to do my best.

I have also come into a great opportunity at work. I work in a science role in R&D for a coal and gas company. Right now the company is growing and expanding, despite the low price of crude oil. I am very fortunate to have joined on during a positive time. This past week was only my second week, but I was challenged like no other. I was challenged at work in getting a handle on processes/procedures more this week, with great coworkers who are directing me & training me, than in any other position I've ever had. It was not easy. I prefer that. Going in, I wanted to be challenged more than I ever had in life. Great news for me!

More to come. Today I am attending a local farmer's market with my neighbors. At some point I would also like to find a church. I want to start attending services on a weekly basis once again.

Thanks, H. I appreciate the kindness. You are a real gentleman.

The farmer's market was great! Cool to see all sorts of vendors and a variety of goods, crafts, and foods. We missed out on the fresh produce because we arrived a little later in the AM. Next time I know the early bird gets the worm! Personally I most often choose to support the small business or local business. I'd rather buy local produce, especially from those who sell at the markets. Later that day my neighbors and I were going to attend a week long festival in town. They are mostly into live music and bands. That is something I am trying to enjoy, myself. The selection seemed to be not the best, so we ventured out to one of the casinos, to take a chance that their live music would be a better choice. There are 3 casinos in the area - Isle of Capri, the Golden Nugget, and L'Auberge. The latter two are newer. We chose the Golden Nugget. I'm not much of a gambler, but it was interesting seeing all the slot machines and table games. I had a temptation to play poker, but it was later at night and didn't feel like exercising my brain. So we just sat and enjoyed the band - 2 guys on guitars, a woman singing (beautiful voice she had!), and a guy on the drumset. The room filled up with each song. All in all it was a splendid day and evening. On a side note I am also glad to have met friends relatively quickly.

Awesome to know. Lake Charles seems like a lively area for music, theater, and arts. Just about every week there is a festival, event or performance in town.

Have you been to any of the casinos in the area, RNT?

Glad things are going well down South. As a native northerner myself, I like the South much more.
KT is so knowelegable about basketball, he can back his **** up. He can rip a program 6 ways to Sunday, yet turn around in the next breath and explain why that same program should/could/will be/is a great program.

I like and respect kentubby, he does know his stuff when it concerns college basketball.
    msudawgs1964

This board would be boring if it wasn't for Kentubby's posts and the responses he gets.
    -fatboydog

Kentubby is one of my favorite posters on this board. Sure he has some personal views, but this board would be so if everyone agreed all the time that it wouldn't be worth going to. I'd challenge you to find another poster on this board that knows as much about EVERY SEC team as he does. He knows more about lowly South Carolina and our recruiting then alot of our own fans do. It would be a sad day for the basketball forum if he ever left.

I'm just south of Baton Rouge but take a trip every summer to L'Auberge. Good times for sure though everything quite expensive there.

Thanks, KT. The South is definitely different. Thought of you when I was passing through Kentucky on the way down. I took I-71/75 and stayed on I-71 to Louisville, then I-65 to Nashville. Think I went passed a couple of guys on here that live near Bowling Green & Leitchfield, too.

I think I've found that I like smaller cities more than bigger ones. Well, I wouldn't even call the city I live in a "city" but I guess it is by definition.
