Start it off right by trading the best closer in baseball away for nothing.

I know you, and a lot of other Braves fans, are sad, angry, and frustrated to see Craig go. You have every right to be. But this trade makes a lot of sense for the organization.

The Braves know they aren't going to contend in 2015. A high-priced closer on a non-contending team makes zero sense. As great as Kimbrel is, his value is limited by the fact that only pitches about 70-80 innings per year.

The Braves get two highly regarded prospects back in this deal, and best of all, they get rid of Upton's outrageous contract. With he and Uggla coming off the books, the Braves will finally be able to become players in the free-agent market again.

Was BJ included in the trade? If so, yes it does help, but a team trading away its three best players in the same off-season is a slap in the face of fans.

Heyward was our own home grown superstar, sure he had a down year, but he is still best defensive outfielder in baseball and has potential to hit 25+ HRs.

    J. Upton is a free agent after this year, but why not keep him and re-sign him? He was the best hitter Atlanta had by far, and now our lineup is the worst in the National League.

The Braves were in the worst position a franchise could be in this offseason: The major-league team wasn't good (79-83 last year), and the farm system was in shambles. They could either try to patch up the big club or bite the bullet and build for the future. Hart and Coppolella determined -- rightly, I believe -- that rebuilding was the best option. It sucks that the Braves won't be a factor in the playoff race this year or probably next, but the long-term picture looks significantly better than it did six months ago.

The trades are just smart for the future. Improving the farm system and getting rid of outrageous contracts helps them going into the new stadium. Upton was not the best hitter, Freeman is a better 'hitter" than upton. They get Maybin who can D it up in center and has potential on offense while Quentin helps to solve the LF issue. Wisler is one of the most coveted names in prospects out there. What good does it to keep all those guys and be around .500 this season and not improve your future?

Going to be an interesting season... GDawg is right, in the long run it makes sense. Hard to watch 324 games of rebuilding though.

Upton was the better hitter last year.

We are talking hitter...Not Hrs cause Upton is the better power hitter, but pure hitting its Freeman all day. WAR doesnt tell me that he is a better hitter...lol
