Emmanuel Mudiay decides not to attend SMU, will turn pro overseas

    http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports...seas/12634877/

"Emmanuel Mudiay decides not to attend SMU, will turn pro overseas

Heralded SMU recruit Emmanuel Mudiay has decided to skip college basketball to play professionally overseas, coach Larry Brown said in a statement Monday. Yahoo! Sports first reported the news.

The explosive 6-5 guard, ranked as the No. 2 prospect via Rivals, was Brown's prized recruit since coming to SMU. He surprisingly chose SMU over Kentucky.

"Emmanuel Mudiay has decided to pursue professional basketball opportunities," Brown said in a statement. "This is not an academic issue, since he has been admitted to SMU, but rather a hardship issue," Brown said in a statement. "After talking to Emmanuel, I know he really wants to alleviate some of the challenges his family faces and recognizes that he has an opportunity to help them now. While I believe that college is the best way to prepare for life and the NBA, Emmanuel's situation is unique. We were excited about having him at SMU, but we understand this decision and wish him the best."

STARTING FIVE: Previewing the 2014-15 season

Mudiay was expected to be a pivotal piece in the national rise of the Mustangs, who bring back a strong nucleus. SMU narrowly missed the NCAA tournament last season but was projected as a top 15 team in USA TODAY Sports' early preseason top 25 rankings.

In a statement toSports Illustrated, Mudiay said, "I was excited about going to SMU and playing college basketball for coach Brown and his staff and preparing for the NBA ...But I was tired of seeing my mom struggle. And after sitting down with coach Brown and my family, we decided that the best way for me to provide for my mom was to forgo college and pursue professional basketball opportunities."

Mudiay is considering playing in the Chinese Basketball Association, according to Yahoo Sports! He will be the most notable player to go overseas instead of playing college basketball since Brandon Jennings, who chose to play professionally in Italy instead of playing for the University of Arizona."

    Thoughts, anyone?

He should be able to go to the NBA if he's got the talent (as should any high school senior), but that's not the overall point. I hope it works out for him to go overseas. Thank God we got Tyler Ulis (and Andrew Harrison back for that matter).
KT is so knowelegable about basketball, he can back his **** up. He can rip a program 6 ways to Sunday, yet turn around in the next breath and explain why that same program should/could/will be/is a great program.

This board would be boring if it wasn't for Kentubby's posts and the responses he gets.

Kentubby is one of my favorite posters on this board. Sure he has some personal views, but this board would be so if everyone agreed all the time that it wouldn't be worth going to. I'd challenge you to find another poster on this board that knows as much about EVERY SEC team as he does. He knows more about lowly South Carolina and our recruiting then alot of our own fans do. It would be a sad day for the basketball forum if he ever left.

I'm with you. Good for Mudiay that he has the capability of playing overseas for big $. I just learned today he signed a HUGE contract. Really hope it works out for him. I can understand his position on wanting to start his career and make money right now. Sometimes the impulse decision has to be made. Maybe going to school right now would not be the best for him.

Yes Mudiay will return. Once he's developed his game and NBA scouts start looking at him his name will be mentioned. KT is right, he'll probably be in the draft in a couple years or so from now.

It'll be next year bro. He'll be one of the top 3 point guard taken. I mean, come on, he'll have pro experience.
