That is honestly a laughable concept. The biggest problem with the post-secondary educational system in this country right now is that it has shifted too far away from vocational skills in a time when everyone graduating high school is guided, almost forcibly, into the system.

I work in an industry that has a huge shortage of skilled workers. I can tell you first hand that there isn't enough of a vocational focus on college campuses. Most universities don't even offer a single Bachelor of Applied Science. Kids going to Community Colleges are getting their AA degrees and transferring. I know of several Community Colleges that have had to pair back their vocational programs due to a lack of enrollment.
If you were to actually research this topic, you would find that funding and expansion of engineering and business programs has grown much more rapidly than funding for the liberal arts and social sciences.

If businesses are experiencing shortages of skilled labor, then they need to set aside funds for the training of skilled labor and not just expect the taxpayer to subsidize their privately controlled businesses through public universities. They need to stop trying to maximize profits for their wealthy shareholders at the expense of the public. That has what has led us into the ditch we are in.

This is what I mean by critical thinking skills. If you are going to make some claim then you need evidence to back it up. Just because there is an apparent shortage of skill labor doesn't mean that schools haven't strongly shifted to vocational education in the last five decades because they have.

I guarantee you there is a lot more conservatives and people right of that in Sociology departments than there are Marxists in Economics departments.

Only two Economics departments in the United States teach Marxian economics that I know of. They also teach the dominant Neoclassical and Keynesian schools of economics right along side of it too so it is not like they are just brainwashing folks into accepting one particular economic arrangement like most Economics departments. They are doing what they are supposed to do i.e. giving their students a well rounded education not simply indoctrinating people into the preferred system of the rulers of our society.

There are plenty of right wingers in the social sciences. You can easily find them in Economics, Political Science and Psychology departments. Sociology doesn't lend itself as well to right wing ideology is all. "Human nature" doesn't cut it as an explanation for the complexity of human behavior as far as they are concerned. You got to look at the environmental influences on behavior to really understand why people do what they do.

That is why Sociology is the best social science. It is the broadest and most complex one. The others are far more reductionist in their nature and mission. All that said, there are conservative schools of thought in Sociology and I was taught them in school. Here is one of them.

Some schools of thought are so pessimistic they are functionally conservative in my opinion as well.

Don't worry about it Doc. In our era of tweets and text messages, punctuation, capitalization, and longhand are no longer necessary.

The fact that most of you are so, to steal your ridiculous word, indoctrinated in your party belief that you view the opposing view as the enemy and write off that entire aisle of the political spectrum because of a few things you dont like would be laughable if it wasn't so sad.
I don't have a party belief. However, I have viewed our system of higher education longer than you have been alive. I have several liberal friends, Elvis and DinD for two. I obviously don't hate them. In fact, there is only one person alive whom I hate, Slick Willie. Our education system is rife with politically correct non-history and dogma.

FYI, Bama Man, 50 states engage in rewritten history. Think Goebbels. The Feds engage in pseudo-science. This is all easily provable. This is the major factor in my conversion to cynic. Believe nothing of what you hear, and half of what you read.

I could go on and on, but if you are interested in reading my takes, PM me.

Elvis is anything but ignorant. It is impossible to engage in a meaningful exchange of ideas if you attack the poster.

Before calling someone out on the proper use of grammar and punctuation. It might be wise to actually spell the term correctly.

I suppose you learned to use the ellipsis properly in the fifth grade? You should have hung around for grade six. They covered spelling that year.

Don't confuse intelligence and education with actual common sense.

It's very ironic to say "don't attack the poster" when dealing with the liberals in this forum. Attacking the poster is their stock and trade.
