It's interesting that Carolina is so high. I've noticed that whenever ESPN has an open vote for something like "impact player of the week", if a Gamecock is included he will always get a ton of votes.

My teams' fan base is a powder keg. I'm almost afraid of what will happen if we win the SEC or a BCS bowl. Govenors may need to keep the National Guard on speed dial.

I suspect Kentucky's numbers would increase significantly during basketball season.

First time around, he had Auburn at #20. Which suggests that the timing might be important and also whether a team is winning or not, or if the fans are excited/optimistic.

I'm not sure about that poll. I didn't read the article, but it looks like they just took the rivals subscription list and ran with it.

ohio state fans have plently of time to be on the internet on most saturdays since their games seem to start at 9am and end by noon. Hell the rest of us haven't even started yet.

Best I can figure, he looked at all (a lot) of discussion boards and compiled the team affiliation of members.

Now you know he doesn't really read all the posts of everyone on all those hundreds and hundreds of discussion boards.

So tell me, if he came to this board, how would he figure out the affiliation of posters like Fatboy, who don't give a clue in their nickname or location who they support? And there are hundreds of inactive members on this board who haven't posted for years. There would be inactive members on every board, plus members who changed nicknames and the old nicknames still exist in the member list.

And what about the fans who use different nicknames on different boards, thus getting counted as multiple fans?

Plus just the sheer tedium of going through the member lists of all those boards.

He says he also included the Rivals and ESPN and other general boards. There are lots of people on those boards who don't provide any obvious clue who they are fans of, unless you actually read their posts.

Frankly, I think this list is just totally unreliable.
