Disclaimer-This is a rather fresh story and only for the most part reported on local Ohio stations but it does seem to have legs.

Hearing that the IRS raided a tattoo parlor in Columbus where they found all sorts of Ohio State signed memorabilia. Word is that tattoos were given to players in exchanged for signed footballs, etc. Supposedly involves 9 OSU players that will be suspended for the Sugar Bowl, including Terrelle Pryor.

This sucks. Now they have an excuse to why they are about to extend their defeated streak against SEC in bowl games.

discussed already in another thread. As of now, it's nothing but rumor mill message board fodder.

nevermind. apparantly the thing has legs. Pryor has tweeted though that he "paid for his tats." So he may or may not be one of the ones in trouble.

BUT, they say this could be something that discipline is handed out at the beginning of next season. as of right now, all players are practicing.

If it's true, this has to be the dumbest way for a group of players to get suspended in NCAA history.

It's probably why they did it. There's nothing like going into a game like that with a built-in excuse for underachieving...

I would bet this kind of thing happens more than people think. The eBay market for autographed CFB memorabilia is a way for players to earn some extra cash by while skirting NCAA rules.

Well, this sh*t wouldn't happen if the players were paid...

And in a more perfect world, the players would be suspended immediately, but the reality is that there are a lot of booster $$$ heading down to the Sugar Bowl, and that $$$ is needed by the OSU Athletic Department long term.

It's a business, big time college football is big business. While we would like to hold Athletics to higher standard, it simply isn't very realistic.

Disappointing.

They should've let their fathers pay for the tats...and if they were received at discounted rates they could claim ignorance, aka SEC style.

OSU will be just fine without the five if the NCAA sticks to the 5 games. More than likely, most if not all will go to the NFL early due to this.

But they did claim ignorance, they did claim ignorance, they did claim ignorance!!!

But apparently, if the transaction is performed by the student/althlete's father, and they say they didn't know anything about it, then it's ok.

i'd like to see some receipts for everything they did with the money to "help out their families" who were obviously on the streets at the time

Yeah, the "taking care of family" alibi is BS.

If it were my decision all five would be suspended stating immediatly, not following the bowl. One of two things happened: 1) They are too stupid to have the common sense to know what they did was wrong, or 2) They have no integrity. Either way, not good. Ohio State will be just fine without them.

Shouldn't a school be punished even worse if they're not even teaching their student-athletes what they cannot do?

Why ever educate your athletes in this case? You can just claim ignorance repeatedly and receive lesser penalties.
