Florida offensive coordinator Steve Addazio has accepted the head coaching job at Temple, sources close to the Temple program told the Philadelphia Daily News on Wednesday. His hiring could be formally announced as early as today in Philadelphia.

Addazio is expected to remain on the UF staff through the Jan. 1 Outback Bowl. Another finalist for the Temple vacancy was Penn State defensive coordinator Tom Bradley, who interviewed for the job last week.

Addazio did not return calls to The Sun on Wednesday.

There had been speculation that Addazio might have a chance to become part of new UF coach Will Muschamp's staff as the offensive line coach, a role he held under Urban Meyer before he was named the offensive coordinator to replace Dan Mullen after the 2008 season. There also were reports earlier in the week that Addazio was in line to become the new offensive line coach at Texas.

According to sources, Addazio received a significant endorsement for the Temple job from Meyer, who has called Addazio one of the top coaches in college football.

Addazio served as Florida's interim head coach while Meyer was on his leave of absence following the Gators' victory over Cincinnati this past January.

Addazio came under heavy criticism this season for his play-calling and the overall poor performance of the offense, which scored seven or fewer points in three of UF's five losses. The Gators averaged only 356.8 yards of total offense a game this season.

Addazio, 51, is an original member of Meyer's UF coaching staff. Addazio was the offensive coordinator at Indiana when he accepted a job from Meyer to become the Gators' offensive line coach in 2005.

Addazio has been one of UF's strongest recruiters, and his ties to the northeast likely will suit him well at Temple.

The Temple job came open when Al Golden left to become the head coach at Miami on Dec. 12.

Think he is better HC material than OC material. He is a good organizational guy and recruiter but not a good play caller. Hope he does well and its one more HC on the Meyer coaching tree as he goes out.
