The Pac-10’s superconference concept is dead. Conference commissioner Larry Scott issued a statement today saying Texas and the other nine current members of the Big 12 Conference will stay put, ending the 16-team concept but potentially keeping Arizona's link to the California schools strong. Texas was expected to attract Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, and probably Texas A&M or Kansas to create a 16-team Western power conference. UA and ASU were expected to join a division with those schools.

“University of Texas President Bill Powers has informed us that the 10 remaining schools in the Big 12 Conference intend to stay together," Scott said. "We are excited about the future of the Pac-10 Conference and we will continue to evaluate future expansion opportunities under the guidelines previously set forth by our Presidents and Chancellors.”

The Pac-10’s most likely course of action now is to add a 12th team, probably Utah, and split into two divisions for the purpose of holding a football championship game.

Well, the thinking here is they're better off anyway. Don't want the Texans. Colorado and Utah are a much better fit. Besides, some fans can double up a November road game with a ski trip.

I'm sure that is the thinking since that's how it turned out. I'm sure there are some A&M people who think they are better off too. Just because some think that doesn't mean it's the case.

the big 12 should add 2 more big market teams.. like Houston, Rice, SMU... & devide the halves more equal with Texas & OK on different sides... have a CG.. let them all have their own networks.. & grow bigger than the Pac 10.. imo
the CG should be at Texas Stadium...
