Varnado needs 17 more blocks to break Shaq's (and Jarvis') single season blocks record. He'll have at least 3 more games (assuming we go to the NIT). If he gets a fourth game I think he'll break it. I remember some people questioned whether he would be able to keep up his pace during this year and I think he's done a good job. I certainly hope he sticks around for next year because he will shatter Shaq's record. Of course Shaq did it in three years but Jarvis' freshman minutes were very limited so I would bet that Jarvis breaks the record in fewer overall minutes.

He needs 413 to break the overall record and he currently has 365. He is already second all time. If only he had played more than 13 minutes per game his freshman year.

Only got 2 blocks v Ole Miss so he has some definite work to do. I think we earned another game by beating Ole miss and drawing Georgia in the first round (no offense Georgia fans).

Most likely a rematch of South Carolina vs Mississippi State. Should be interesting to see what happens on a neutral court.

i hope V returns.

I think he will. He still needs some work. He's very inconsistent offensively. He has shown great flashes with games of 31 but he has also had some bad performances.

I too think Jarvis will be back. He still needs a lot or work on his offense. It will be great to see it if he does break the record next year. Even though Shaq got his in only three years a lot of people thought the record couldn't be broken.

Varnado will be back, there is very little doubt in my mind.

Varnado is closing in on the all-time NCAA career blocked shots record, and I think next year he very well could/should surpass it.

Who has the record? David Robinson?

He's 168 blocks shy so it's not out of the realm of possibility but it'll be tough. Assuimg he gets another 10 or so this year he'll need 158 which is right around his average for the last 2 years.

Jarvis with 3 blocks versus Georgia so he is now 12 short of the record. I think we'll get at least 2 more games assuming we go to the NIT so he needs to step it up. From watching him it looks as if he is trying to keep out of foul trouble and keep on the floor when someone is in close on him.

If we can manage to win one more game in the SECT or 1 game in the NIT I think he'll get it. I like the way we are playing right now, though, so I wouldn't put a deep SECT run out of the question.

What's the most he's had in one game?

What's the most he's had in one game?

He's had ten in three different games, all last season.

Absolute beast...I think he'll stay for his senior season..Why not? What a great team we'll have next year and its his senior season, he can bulk up, help us compete for championships..Whats not to like?

In my life I don't think I've ever seen Jarvis lose a tip off.

I don't know if Jarvis will get enough chances next year to break the NCAA record. Barring any transfers Kodi and Romero should be getting more playing time. Bailey should be back also since thankfully his injury wasn't as bad as feared. We also have another 6-8 from New York on the bench, but I don't know much about him.

I have only seen it once...can't remember who it was against, but it was last year.

I think he will be back. He is still underweight for the NBA. Plus his offense still needs a little more. He also seems to enjoy the college game.

nbadraft.net has him as a mid first rounder in the 2010 draft. I think he will definitely be a first rounder if he puts on more weight and continues to improve on offense.

4 blocks in the first half so he is 8 shy of the record now. We just have to win one more game this season and I think he will get it!

I agree. He'll probably need two more games after this one.

With six blocks to go and at least two games I think he'll do it.

Oh ok...Yeah yeah...I hope we get those 2 7 footers from MS, who will actually be able to put up some points and get some rebounds...I want the guy who is averaging like 28 points and 15 rbds a game...Both from the same town..He's 7 foot the one I wanna get, and the other guy is 7'2"

Seven footers don't always work out. We've had a couple of bad ones. Wesley Morgan anybody?

Yeah but just because they don't always work out doesn't mean we shouldn't still pursue them!

Jarvis' seven blocks today against LSU puts him two ahead of Shaq (and himself) for the single season blocks record and he has at least two more games to go.
