Great game. Huge opportunity for us, although I can't imagine it boosting our RPI as much as it should when you beat a top 20 school, since LSU's RPI isn't where it should be and it's a home game.

With a win, UK solidifies it's NCAAT picture... with a win, LSU wins the SEC outright!

The best pure scorers in the SEC going at it: Meeks-Thornton... maybe this decides SEC POY, because Thornton has been gaining more traction of late.

We need it a lot worse than they do. It's at home. We should win. If they Cats don't come out with all the intensity in the world for this one, they never will.

I ran some numbers on the probability of us winning and based upon my graph we will defeat LSU Saturday...

We haven't won at UK since 1992. I think Trent will have the guys motivated to end that streak, and continue our winning streak.

Besides Billy Gillispie, SEC Coach of the Year ( I mean, Trent Johnson) is easily my favorite other coach in the SEC. He just gets it.

Hard to believe that LSU has won two SEC titles since our last, but that's a testament to a sensationally-great program IMO. Trent Johnson has brought accountability, ownership, and everything to the program.

LSU defends better than us. LSU scores better than us. They obviously rebound better than us. UK is gonna need another Mardi Gras miracle if we've not worked out some kinks... in the past, even if LSU has equal or more talent, you knew that you could maybe outcoach LSU... not the case now... Trent Johnson doesn't routinely get outcoached by anybody.

What an honor to have somebody like that in this league to coach a program like LSU which is a sleeping giant... LSU has been the greatest surprise of the SEC this year, and I just hope we can give them a bad day on Saturday, although there's been plenty of great days already.

And, above all, LSU fans are straight class in basketball. I've not dealt with them much in football, but the basketball fans represent the school well.

This is going to be a great game. You've got the best perimeter offensive and defensive player going head to head. I think LSU will take this one but it should be a fight for sure.

kentubbybasketball
02-26-2009, 01:34 PM
Funny you should say that. I assume you're talking about Garrett Temple as the best defensive perimeter player (and I agree bar none, I've said that for three years now), but don't you find it crazy that Temple wasn't on Calathes at some points in the Florida game? I'd imagine he would have guarded Calathes... perhaps they put Thornton on Jodie.

Johnson seems to like manning up positions. 1 on 1, 2 on 2, etc.

Spencer was doing a decent job on Calathes, until he got his second foul. Then he got 8 points or so very quickly.

I know you are very high on him, and so am I, but the one criticism I have of Johnson is that he doesn't seem to like calling timeouts.

kentubbybasketball
02-26-2009, 02:01 PM
Well, that's the ultimate criticism I have on Billy Gillispie also. He doesn't call TOs even if we've down on a 15-0 run, but he did call an early one against USC last night.

If CTJ doesn't call TOs all the time (and you know better than I), this game might only take 55 minutes total on Saturday.

I guess calling timeouts admits weakness to some coaches, but I'd rather call the TO and win... that's not embarrassing to me.

I like my coach to give the appearance of having a clue what is going on during a game. Maybe that's just me.

Somehow, after the game, Gillispie can tell you all about why we got beat and what we need to do for that to not happen. Then, apparently forgets because it's not applied to his next gameplan. Again...that's just me.

kentubbybasketball
02-26-2009, 02:18 PM
Sky, better than that... G can tell you ad nauseum what needs to be done in the post game press conference, but an hour earlier he wasn't calling timeouts during the game to tell his team. That's just mindblogging to me.

Not to sound arrogant or like anything is our birthright, but this is UK! Billy Gillispie needs to remember that.

Sam Muldrow had like 8 blocks last night and he's not nearly as long or athletic or as good a shotblocker as Chris Johnson, who is 6'11... three inches on Pat, not including wingspan. Pat's gonna have to go harder to the rim. One advantage Pat may have over Johnson though is that he could bully Johnson and push him around quite a bit, but I expect CTJ to have Stevenson and Johnson on each other. Chris Johnson may be the only other starting post that Perry could hold his ground against.

As always, another quality post from you KT. I wish I could rep you, but I have to spread rep. If you could get rep for every worthy post, your rep points would be well over 1,000.

As far as the game, I don't see Kentucky having another performance like the one they had against South Carolina. This is not your vintage Kentucky team, but I'd have to guess that Billy G and these players have pride in the uniform they wear and what it represents. I've said this about a few games, I will say it again. If this win streak we are on is ever going to end, it's going to be against Kentucky. As it was stated in here, we have not won in Rupp Arena since 1992. Hopefully our guys keep up what they have been doing and pull this one out.

Either way, I've always heard about how "arrogant" Kentucky fans are. But to be honest, I don't see it here. All the UK fans have been nothing but respectful. Despite the fact that UK isnt as good as they usually are, I still respect what the program has accomplished.

I'm worried about this one. UK has the talent to beat LSU and they should have much more motivation to win. I can see this easily going the Cats way if the Tigers aren't firing on all cylinders. But if we play the way this team is capable of playing, they can win.

And PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't bring up the Mardi Gras miracle ever again.........

man you guys are giving us more credit then we deserve. the jury on this team is still out, but the l.s.u. game scares the crap out of me. they have a lot of big bodies who know to rebound. and all of our bigs just want to block shots rather then blocking out. unless meeks goes off and ppat has a good game, i could see us getting beat by 12 or 13. and man that pains me to say it. but at least we are playing at home. it will be very interesting to hear the reaction during the starting lineups when the announce billy g.
