Now that Courtney Fortson is suspended, does this help other freshmen chances?
We will see.

Fortson- 14.6 ppg, 6.5 ast, 4.3 TO, 1.3 Stls, 5.3 Reb

Bost- 10.6 ppg, 4.4 ast, 2.6 TO, 1.5 Stls, 3.1 Reb

White- 11.2 ppg, 2.1 ast, 1.5 TO, 0.8 Stls, 3.4 Reb

Also the Georgia kid, but can you give it to him since his team is horrible?
Also Vandy kid, but to lazy to look up stats?

I think you give it to Bost. His team is tied with 2nd place in the SEC(along with 1/2 the teams it seems) and scores almost as much as White but along with two extra assit.

Fortson's double whammy puts him out of discussion (1-fer in the SEC and suspension).

Really, you don't even put JaMychal Green in the discussion?

10.1 ppg, 7rpg, 1.1 spg, 1.6 bpg, .5 apg, 56% FG%, 73% FT% 1.42 pps

His numbers are better in SEC play. He's stepped his play up. Look for him to be one of the best players in the league next year.

I voted Terrico White. A couple of these freshman weren't playing much in the early part of OOC play. Here's some conference game stats:

Dee Bost:
34.7 mpg 13.4 ppg 3.0 rpg 4.67 apg 2.47 A/T 1.37 spg 36.5% FG

Courtney Fortson:
32.7 mpg 13.9 ppg 4.6 rpg 5.56 apg 1.22 A/T 1.89 spg 41.0% FG

JaMychal Green:
26.2 mpg 12.4 ppg 6.9 rpg 0.56 apg 0.26 A/T 1.20 spg 58.3% FG

Terrico White:
32.7 mpg 16.4 ppg 4.0 rpg 2.78 apg 1.25 A/T 0.67 spg 45.5% FG

Green is also averaging 1.44 bpg which puts him at 6th in the SEC in conference play. His FT% of 76% is among the leaders too(10th).

Taylor - 12.7 ppg, 6.1 Reb, 51% FG 1.1 stls

Leads all of the above in the bolded categories. Bost needs to shoot better than 36% from the field to be FOY if you ask me. He may be scoring a lot and dishing out assists, but that's an atrocious FG%.

Taylor: 13ppg / 6rpg / 51% FG / 1.0 spg / 1.9 apg (in SEC play)

He deserves this award as much as anybody, but at this point, I think it's Terrico White's to lose with the way's he's tearing it up lately.

I have to agree. I love his assist to turnover ratio though. He'll get better at his shot selections but I may have to give this one to Terrico White (I want to give it to Bost but that is a bit of a homer decision).

Green bests him in both bolded categories.

Well he wasn't in the "above" list, was he???

It certainly is a close battle, and the 2nd half of the season will tell the story.

I think it is really going to matter about the teams success. And right now, out of the freshmen teams that have been mentioned, Miss St is the best one

still several guys can win or lose FOY. i voted Bost because im a homer ..& i think pg is the hardest position to play as a true freshman. he needs to take it to the basket more to get his sp up.

That doesnt seem right to me. Someone like J. Green is hurt by his guards and not by his talent. Now if MSU was having a terrific year b/c of Bost, that's just another reason to give it to him. He gets tremendous help from having other shooters on his team and Varnado. Varnardo just affects so much. Green does a lot of his work by himself. This isnt a MVP award.

Bost has tremendously helped MSU. State is nearly matching last year's Jamont Gordon and Charles Rhodes team witha team-full of freshmen and sophomores because of Bost's outstanding ball-handling and decision-making. I believe Bost could rival Varnado as the team's most important contributor.

I thought Bost was the FOY before Fortson got suspended, but two losses in a row kind of dim the glow a bit on MSU's entire team, which could hurt Bost's chances... but of the main contenders, Bost is still on the better team (although some Ole Miss fans may beg to differ).
