hunter or shooter but I'm pretty dang good with a rifle or bow. That said how come when these so called "Pro Hunters", on tv, shoot a deer & the deer runs at least 100 yards? Every time. I was watching a couple of the shows this afternoon and every deer they shot ran, not a single one dropped in it's tracks. They all ran like they had been shot too far forward or too far back.
I have been hunting since I was 10 years old and in all of that time I have lost one deer and had one deer run more than 20 yards after being hit. You would think that with the job they have, that they would at least practice shooting.
I hate those shows... they should be taken off of tv for what they have done to this sport.:zipit::zipit::zipit:

I shot a deer at 125 yds with 270 Weatherby using 140 grain Barne X bullet perfect placement on the chest. I could stick my fist through the exit wound and the deer ran 80 yds on 3 legs. I think its adrenaline or something.

I guess I should have cleared that up a little, I was still a little irritated from watching those shows when I posted that.
The shows I was watching showed the bucks just walking around without a care in the world, totally relaxed. They didn't know they were being hunted until it was too late. Now deer that have been spooked, run by dogs or are chasing does... that's a different story. I can understand them running a ways after being shot.
I shot this 135 lb doe at 263 yards, she ran 10 yards and fell dead. She never knew I was there until the bullet passed through. Maybe I've just been lucky...

I don't think you have been lucky. I have never had a deer run over 50 yards and I have shot a bunch. 90% of the deer I shot didn't go 25 yards and over half took less than 5 steps.
That is with a variety of rifles and calibers, but about 50% .30-30. 15% with a .270 and the remaining 35% or so with a .30-06. It's all about shot placement.

Same here. I've used a .223, 30-06, 25-06(pictured), 7 mm magnum, 45-70, 50 cal muzzleloader and countless other firearms... with the same results.

I have taken 3 Mulies and none of them ran over 50 yards either.

I guess ut depends where you want to place the shot. Like I said my last buck ran with a perfect vitals shot. He was a hanger so I chest shot him.
Now I head shot a doe and here feet hit her chest before she hit the ground.
uh.....
this is a disappointing thread. It doesn't matter about shot placement, or method. It's all about the animals desire to live.
i shot a buck, perfect heart and lung shot with pass through that ran over 95 yards this year - with a 300 ULTRA MAG! I also dropped two more in their tracks this year with the same gun and perfect bullet placement.
250 lb boar - 4 shots with a 7 mag. two in the neck, two behind the shoulder before it would die!
275 lb boar- one shot with a bow, 15 yards latter... dead.
200 lb sow - 4 inches two far back, 5 yards and dead with a bow.
160 lb sow - perfect shot with a bow. 120 yards
240lb boar - two shots with a 300 ultra mag! both were a little far back but long and liver.
doe - heart shot, shattered, "completely" shattered both front legs = 75 yard run looking like a windmill going through water. craziest thing i have ever seen.
I have killed A LOT of animals... and A LOT more will die by my hands. I will not post numbers b/c that's something that could possibly get me in trouble. But I will say this - it does not matter how good your shot is, or what method. If a deer wants to run.. it will. If a hog wants to run... it will. Unless you shoot the animal in the neck (my preferred shot), or backbone, or head (tsk tsk), you NEVER.. NEVER know what the animal is going to do. It may run 2 steps, or 200. It may bleed buckets, or not a single drop.
THAT is why hunting is exciting. Even with a perfect shot you still may have a chase on your hands. Yes, most animals will not go far with good shot placement, but some will... and to be honest with you. I prefer it that way. I like knowing that my dinner wasn't some ***** ass that was just waiting to fall over dead cause it had no ****ing fight in them. :raz:
as for the TV shows... i dunno what their deal is.

I must just get the ones that want to die DBS. :)
On pigs, all bets are off, I have seen them do some wild runs as well. And have dropped them with a .22 at night.
