Interesting game here. UK has a chance to start out 5-0. Bama has a chance to make a statement win.

Nex year does this game feature: Tubby Smith vs Kentucky? If so, does Tubby bring David Hobbs on his staff to Bama, which would put Hobbs back at the only school where he's ever been a college head coach?

Also, of note is Jodie Meeks. Jodie was probably gonna go to Bama before UK started showing interest late. Jodie is the probable SEC player of the year and an All-American.

I think we almost matchup okay with UK. I know Hillman is looking forward to matching up against Meeks.

you need to play team defense to defend JM. Bama doesn't do that.

That's how I feel as well. We've had lots of perimeter players put it on Bama in recent years, and none of them were as good or athletic as Jodie Meeks. Granted, Hillman is an athlete as well, but at 6'1, I don't think he'll bother Meeks as much as a 6'4 guy would. Meeks rubs off screens harder than anybody I can remember, plus he elevates for his shot so high that his shot is basically unblockable.

We'll probably lose by 50.

Torrance and Andrew will help too.

i m not so sure its elevation as much as its his quick release.

Torrance has the height, but I don't think he has the quickness that Meeks has. I'm not so sure about Andrew.

He does get up high for his shot. I'm not saying his release isn't quick (it certainly is). But, Meeks can get up for his shot. I don't think he has to all the time, so he doesn't show it always, but he's got it.

I think it's a combination of getting to the spot quickly, jumping high, and the quick release. Last year it seemed like Crawford elevated higher but didn't release as quickly.

Yeah, Joe had some great elevation, and because of it, it seemed like his "hangtime" was better than Meeks'. But, Meeks has nice elevation. He's certainly a 5 star athlete. I think with Jodie he's not as reliant upon such a high jump like Joe. But, if Jodie needed to do it, he could. Wasn't he a great high jumper in high school (or was that his dad)?

Tubby might be at Bama but not Hobbs (but he was a very good assistant just not that good of a HC)

This game matches up the top two scorers in SEC play. Mikhail Torrance has taken over for Steele and has averaged 22.7 points per game in the last 3 SEC games. The 6'5 guard is shooting 63% in SEC play. He's also hit 94% of his free throws and he leads the league with his 53% 3 point average in SEC play.

I think Hobbs is retired, but Tubby could pull him out of retirement I'd imagine if it came down to it. Tubby and Hobbs work well together.

that would be just strange to see tubby in the s.e.c. again. but if it does happen i would almost bet that tubby wouldn't pull a pitino and come out of the wrong entrance every time his team plays at rupp. any way i believe that this one will be closer then most think. bama always plays us tough at home... and there fans actually show up we the cats come to town.

We are heading to Lousyville tonight, so this is one of the few games I'll have to miss this season. I'll listen on the radio where I can, but mostly be in Blackberry mode.

I haven't seen Bama play this year, but the Tide is usually a very athletic team. I'll take a squeaker win here: UK - 65 Bama - 62

I'm amped for this game. I'm predicting a couple point win. Roll Tide!

see if this game follows a familiar pattern:
close game at the half
gradual decline in defensive intensity by Bama in the 2nd half
very few assists

UK should win this one. Nothing against Bama but even without Steele, on paper, they are a skilled athletic veteran group, but they never seem to pull things together and I don't think it will start today against UK

Won't last but of course CMG has pulled more out of his you know what against UK than most coaches in the league.

Sounds like momentum is swinging a little to the Cats.

Wish I could watch this. I'm sitting in the car listening while my wife is probably blowing a ton of money in a children's boutique.

PP, Meeks, Porter out of the game? Can this lineup even score?

Bama with a 6 point lead going in at the half. Cats shooting 31%.

I have faith in Billy Clyde to make the necessary adjustments. We tend to do this every game. I still expect a close win for the Cats in the end.

EDIT: My bad, you are sucking. Kentucky is just sucking more.

UK didn't bring their "A" game in the 1st half. With a little more shot selection, Bama could have been up bigger. Curious game.

Seems a emergency during half about a UK player collapsing?

ukfan339
01-24-2009, 04:08 PM
Yes, Ramon Harris seems to have collapsed at half, so the half will not resume in a while. wow, I hope hes ok, Also the commentaors said Billy will not be out in the 2nd half. This is crazy.

Big time win for the Cats. Bama was up for this game. Thankfully, we hit our FT's down the stretch and Bama pretty much fell apart in the closing minutes.

Geez I have heard this statement so many times in GMG time at Alabama. I want this clown out of town and for us to bring in someone to actually do something with the talent we have.

Very commendable in going to the Hospital with a player instead of being there at the start of the half. Any word on Harris. Praying for him.

Im tired of lazy passes & defense. Shooting 3 when we shouldn't & not shooting them when we should. Get rid of him & go after Anthony Grant.

UK was fortunate to come outo f this game with a win. No Ramon Harris in the second half (seems like he's gonna be alright). Patrick gets his third foul early. Meeks doesn't really have a "loud game." But, I tell you what, folks saying this is a two headed monster of a team are missing out on the fact that Perry Stevenson is posting double figure points and rebounds on many people in this league.

Harrellson gave us some solid minutes, and he allowed us to "cheat" a little with Pat on the bench, but he's gotta improve his defense.

Darius Miller was really a calming force on this team. Other than Jodie he probably handled the ball better than anybody, and that was key with Liggins and Porter being off and Harris not even playing at the swing position.
