Btw guys all the times listed for the tournment are in ATLANTIC time on wikipedia, so Im pretty sure that Argentina/USA game is at 7:45 EST so dont forget. Ill be glued to my Computer screen (live-footy.org).

Mexico and USA are in the cup but if either happen to win, the South American runner up wins. Just like how Guadeloupe couldnt have won the Gold Cup if they beat Mexico and were playing us in the finals.

Winners of these continental tournaments go on to play in the FIFA Confederations Cup (played before every World Cup). So USA vs Mexico winner in the Gold Cup Final goes to the Confed. Cup which explains why the US and Mexico cant technically win CONMEBOL's Copa America.

I just hope we can turn some heads and not get blown out like the World Cup.

We can win it we just can't get the invite to the confederations cup, bc we already qualified.

Gold cup
Copa america
Euro cup
asian cup
african nations cup
world cup
QFC nations cup

the winners of these tourney's get invited to the confederations cup in 2009 in South Africa, which is huge b/c you get to play in the stadiums that the world cup is being held in the next year.

What's the system for who plays who at the Federations Cup?

What's the system for who plays who at the Federations Cup?

Its whoever wins the Continental Finals. Gold Cup is the CONCACAF Final, Euro 2008 is the UEFA Final, etc for every federation.

Italy are automatically in the Confed. Cup being the previous World Cup Champions. And of course South Africa is the host so they are in it.

Fifa Confederations Cup:

The FIFA Confederations Cup is an official FIFA tournament, held every four years.

In the 2009 edition, the continental champions from South America, North and Central America and the Caribbean, Africa, Europe and Asia will join hosts South Africa in competing for the trophy.

Winners of:
Copa America - South America
Gold Cup - North & Central America + Caribbean (USA)
CAF Africa Cup of Nations -Africa
UEFA European Championship - Europe
AFC Asian Cup - Asia
World Cup (Italy)

+ Host Nation (south africa)
As for who plays who I don't know and couldn't find it.

Yeah, I know who gets in and how...but I was wondering if it was split into groups or whatever.

Probably two groups of four teams each.

Bolivia celebrate equalizing in the 84th minute.

I saw Venezuela and Bolivia's first goals, Im rooting for Bolivia in this group since Jaime Moreno is Bolivian (great player for DC United) and actually equalized the game at 1-1.

I get GolTV on Dishnetwork but as far as I know they will only broadcast in Spanish. The game info is listed as Argentina VS. Estados Unidos. Doesn't seem very English to me.

I take it back, GolTV news just said it was only going to be in English.

Yup, GolTV is English...most of the ads are in Spanish, but they're English broadcasts.

Can either the US or Mexico win the Copa? I mean since the Copa is the South American version of the Gold Cup I don't see why they would invite the two most dominate North American teams to play in, with the possibility of winning, their cup.

GR8NESS
06-27-2007, 11:26 PM
We can win, but we don't qualify. That would be the second place S.A. team who qualifies.

boxvic
06-27-2007, 11:32 PM
Could Mexico qualify though since we won the Gold cup?

GR8NESS
06-27-2007, 11:42 PM
no, it has to be a South American team I believe.

It is a honor to be invited to such a prestigious tourney, The Copa america is the longest running continental championship. It is a very big tourney and is a honor and shows much respect to being invited. The same reason Brazil is usually invited to play in the gold cup.

SECgamecock453

We can still win the Copa America trophy, its just that the US or Mexico CANNOT get that 2009 FIFA Confederations spot as that spot comes from winning the Gold Cup which we've already done.

So basically, each of these continental finals has to be won by (or in the case of an outsider winning, representing their continent at Confed. Cup) a member of that continent, makes sense.

Paraguay 5 - 0 Colombia. Wow. We are in a tough ass group. Roque Santa Cruz scored 3 goals and Paraguay scored goals in the 80th, 85th, and 88th minutes.

USA vs Argentina is about to start, hopefully we dont get embarassed THAT bad.

Uruguay 1 - 0 Bolivia
Venezuela 2 - 0 Peru

Pretty poor showing for Peru as they beat Uruguay 3-0 their first game, I thought theyd sweep the group after that.
