On Thursday night, USA TODAY broke the news that Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze had placed a call to an escort service from his university-issued phone.

After a string of allegations of wrongdoing, Freeze had managed to hold on to his job, but that all came to an end on Thursday.

According to Ole Miss, Freeze has resigned, effective immediately, and assistant Matt Luke has been named the interim head coach:

Nutt's lawsuit really was final nail in coffin.

Nutt's lawsuit really was final nail in coffin.
Good point that no one has brought up yet.

After the Nutt lawsuit Ole Miss was probably looking for a reason and Freeze gift wrapped it with the escort phone call.

Perhaps Coach Freeze was arranging entertainment for new recruits, as if the beautiful coeds at Ole Miss are not recruiting advantage enough for the Johnny Rebs!

Nutt's lawsuit really was final nail in coffin.

Very doubtful. Nutt's lawsuit and the current NCAA investigation are both completely separate issues from this. Inappropriate personal conduct has nothing to do with that lawsuit.

That is due in large part to what Bjork called a “pattern of personal misconduct.” Bjork said the call to an escort service didn’t appear to be a one-time thing for Freeze:

“We proactively looked into the rest of (Freeze’s) phone records and found a concerning pattern,” he said in the press conference.

Because Freeze resigned due to personal misconduct, he will not be eligible for a buyout or a settlement, according to Bjork:

No buyout!

This is not a separate issue from the lawsuit. Nutt's attorney is the one who brought the issue to light. Just one of many issues in the legal wrangling between Ole Miss and Nutt. Have you not read the USA Today report?

Guess he doesn't have to complain about working those summer satellite camps anymore.

Hot teams over the last decade. Ole Miss, Michigan State, and Baylor all come to mind. Freeze gone, sparty has a rape culture brewing in the locker room, and we all know about Baylor.

Agreed. The best part of that is that Freeze and Ole Miss supporters have always blamed Nutt for all the problems with the NCAA, even as more and more revelations about Freeze's term came to light.

It seemed obvious to me that Ole Miss was flagrantly violating NCAA rules. I actually wish that Freeze was still around at Ole Miss when the NCAA finally announces their findings.

You also have to wonder if AD Ross Bjork survives all this too, since he's been around the entire time.

It also looks likely that Freeze will be levied a show cause label as a result of all of this.

Ole Miss had best become the NCAA's most compliant school going forward if they wish to limit the scope of the coming penalties.

Nutt took down Freeze in less than a month when filing the suit.......surprising it happened so fast.

Yes. Ole Miss. The biggest mistake they made when they hired Freeze to run their pay-for-play system was not hiring Pat Dye also as a consultant.

Y'all don't even hide it. Your players post pictures of their new cars that they receive the day they sign. Freeze just did not have Mark Emmert protecting him the way Saban does.

Speaking of inappropriate, did they publish the number he called? Asking for a friend... :)

On a serious note, any pics of the escort?!? :)

But for real, when an organization wants you gone there are always plenty of ways to make it happen. Typically no one is rifting through the phone calls of a coach that they like...

Back to real business brother Hog. It is almost football season. We are not in the TTank. This is about just plain not liking the guy from the other team, be him republican, democrat, communist, or kulak...It don't matter...Come football Saturdays, he stinks.

It came up in the Nutt lawsuit. They probably never finds the call if the suit isn't filed.

Former Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt is feeling vindicated in the wake of Hugh Freeze’s resignation for “a pattern of personal misconduct,” his attorney says.

Walter Morrison sent a statement to The Associated Press on Thursday night.

“The revelations that have come tonight and the reason for Freeze having to resign really bears on his character,” Morrison wrote. “And I think it is further evidence of the fact that we have said all along and that is the public persona of Hugh Freeze is not the true Hugh Freeze. … This is just a prime example of what we have tried to show in our complaint.”

Is it really necessary to demonize Hugh Freeze? It is sad to watch these grown men act so petty over sportball.

He would have done just enough to keep Bama mediocre for another two decades.

Get a clue. Freeze challenged all who questioned his shady tactics to either put up or shut up. It's obvious he was another Petrino, except that he invited the scrutiny.

He's not being demonized........only exposed for all the fraud he engaged in.

He deserves everything he's getting now........

You need to get a clue if don't think all competitive college football programs employ "shady tactics".

I suspect UGA has been running their program in a similar manner to Ole Miss and all major programs more or less do. I also suspect that Freeze is not some exceptional character in this endeavor of big time college football.

Well, he did take Washington State to the Rose Bowl, and he did hire Joe Kines as his defensive coordinator, but we will never know what he may have done at Alabama, will we?
