Since I've been cluttering up this dead forum with SC bball threads, I've decided to just make one all-encompassing thread. With the 68-50 victory over Vermont tonight, the Gamecocks move to 7-0. Hoping we can finish off our OOC schedule undefeated.

Just keep playing that suffocating defense each game and we'll be in the tourney.

The Syracuse win should be big in March, given that they compete in the ACC and do well. Bama had a chance at another signature nOOC win but blew it njust like Dayton game.

So Thornwell didn't play today and has been suspended indefinitely...wonder what he did..

In your opinion, as without bias as you can be, is Carolina the second best SEC team? I know UF is really good too, and we know UK is a top 3 team whereas UF/USC are top 15-20 teams.

I think we're second best right now. How can you deny it with those two ranked wins? I don't think we'll finish second best but we are second best right now. We're also going to see how good we are without Thornwell (got a taste of that against FIU).. I'd image he'll miss the Seton Hall game.

Totally forgot about the game from Monday, saw that we lost 67-64 in the final seconds. Thornwell, whatever he did... really could cost us.

Bama is free falling, lost to Clemson but they didn't impress me. SC should win handily.

Nope. We're not a good team. Clearly we rely on one player way too much. With Thornwell we'd be 11-0.

SC beats UGA and the refs tonight 67-61.

With Thornwell for the entire season we'd be 13-1 right now.. possibly 14-0 but I think we still would've lost @ Memphis. He just severely lowered our margin for error in conference play so beating UGA last night was a must win. Also they've had our number lately so it was an added bonus that we finally got over that hump.

SC held serve at home defeating the Aggies 79-68.

Good. We can't afford to lose much. Up next is @ Tennessee... tough place to play and an opponent we haven't done well against more often than not. Have to win.

Beat Tennessee in Knoxville 70-60 last night to improve to 13-3 (3-0). The more we win the more pissed I get about the losses to Seton Hall and Clemson. We could be 15-1 right now, even 16-0. Thornwell better keep working his ass off, I know he wants to make up for his mistake and missing those games. Eventually we'll get to a point we're secure for the tourney, I hope.. then and only then will I stop caring about those losses. I think we will finish 13-5 or 12-6 in the SEC. I don't think 12-6 will be good enough for the tourney so we will have those two losses to thank.

Hopefully they will take into consideration that we were without our best player.

Back in the top 25...

#19 Florida (14-3; 5-0) @ #24 South Carolina (14-3; 4-0) tomorrow 6:30 PM EST. Should be a good one.

Welp it was a good one in that it was close but that's about it. Ugly game all around...but we pulled it out 57-53 after trailing 28-21 at the half.

Florida was 0 for 17 from 3. That's atrocious. Still a big boost for us, UF had only lost to Gonzaga by 5, Duke by 10 and Florida State by 5 before tonight.

Quite the contrast in styles coming up Saturday. Kentucky's run and gun vs. USC's grinding power defense.

We'll probably still loose but even a loss against UK still helps our RPI.

I think it'll be close. USC can do some things that give us trouble.

Next two games are away games; have to beat both of these Tigers. They only have a combined 1 SEC win between them. Just realized that makes three straight Tigers opponents in a row.

We took care of business on the road. I want to believe that this team is really good and will continue to play well but last season is still fresh in my mind.

2/4 vs Georgia Bulldogs
2/7 vs Alabama Crimson Tide
2/11 @ Mississippi State Bulldogs
2/15 vs Arkansas Razorbacks
2/18 @ Vanderbilt Commodores
2/21 @ Florida Gators
2/25 vs Tennessee Volunteers
2/28 vs Mississippi State Bulldogs
3/4 @ Ole Miss Rebels

I see 2-3 more losses on the schedule. @ Miss. State, @ Florida and someone else... maybe Vandy.

One clear difference. Bama is here. Vandy is away.

Well we beat UGA and the refs a second time this season.

USC is in the drivers seat to win the SEC now. UK still has losses to Bama away, UGA away, UF at home, and maybe at A&M left. That's six. Beat UF and you guys are guaranteed the champs.
