I'm really concerned about the offensive recruits in this class. My gut is telling me that Eason is gone (with the insult of NCAA violations to boot) and that leaves us in a VERY precarious position at QB.

We have no depth at that position. Frankly, we need 3 QBs between the 2016 and 2017 classes to build some sort of depth.

Losing Whaley hurts as well. We've shown HS kids that we will recruit and play 2 RBs at a minimum every season.

I honestly don't know what will happen at WR. We need a bunch to build depth and some big ones to step in and contribute.

The OL actually looks like it could be a strength of this class.

So, am I overreacting or does anyone else see what I see?

Just my opinion, but I think you are overreacting a good bit. We are two days into a new hire with one the most capable recruiters and closers in the country now as our head coach. Nothing is final until players enroll in January or sign in February. I expect our class will be every bit as good as the day Richt was terminated, maybe even better. But it's much too early to draw any conclusions either way IMO.

Also we are about to enter a dead period. Of the staff fills out an OC is named, then hopefully we can reassure those committed.

I think we are probably soewhere between the two posts above. Though Smart is surely capable in this area.

The dead period begins on the 15th IIRC. Smart indicated in an interview yesterday that his priority is getting out to see the recruits as No. 1.....especially the EEs.

His staff will come together over the next few days but there will be little if any time to hold pressers announcing the additions.

The senior gala banquet is Saturday in Athens and many recruits will be attending........Eason and his family are here for weekend, as will be many other commits and prospects on official or unofficial visits.

IMO, I think Eason is 70% to UGA. His family is as straight as they come, and I expect a decision after the Gala.

There are decommitments with every coaching change. It sucks to lose Whaley, but we will add some commits as a result of the change. I think Demetris Robinson ill be added, along with several others. We had the #3 class with only 17 commits before Whaley dropped off. If we keep Pruitt and Rocker we will likely have the #1 class. If we lose Pruitt, we will probably lose Mecole Hardman.

We also just greatly improved our position with that 2017 LB from Vidalia.

Bottom line - We will have a killer class if we don't lose Eason.

I think you hit the nail on the head with your last statement.

We just seem so thin at QB that we can't afford to not get a quality recruit there. If he does choose UF, I'm not sure we could flip one this late in the process.

Or am I off in my thinking?

I'm not a big believer in the worth of a 3rd string QB. You will lose anyway. We have Hockeman in 2017.

Late word is, Smart can keep Pruitt. If Pruitt stays, we are looking at a #1 class with maybe six 5 stars.

I expect y'all will finish strongly.
