Some fans on CockyTalk seem to think we have a shot at the NIT... I don't see it. But we do have impressive wins over Iowa State and Oklahoma State. For those that don't know Iowa State just mounted a nice comeback and beat Kansas in the Big 12 Conference Tournament Championship game. We also beat Ole Miss in the SECT..

Our BPI is 67 and RPI is 89 according to ESPN's website right now... not sure how updated it is.

Small chance.

You have to be .500 to get in. So you're eligible but I think your conference record did you in. I've not seen SC mentioned in any projections.

It has changed over the years. Used to be easy to get in at 17-16, but all of the reg season conf champions that arent in NCAA go to the NIT (Murray St, NC Central, possibly Boise State, etc) so they take up spots. Also there is a selection committee now just like the NCAAs so it is harder

Last mock i saw had UF as a 7 seed, TAMU as a 1 seed, Alabama as a 5 seed, and Vandy and Tenn get mention. Prob too hard for SC to get in this season

Maybe we'll accept a CBI invite... just want some sort of post-season.

UF is not even .500

Pretty painful that 10 of our 16 losses were by 10 points or less:

Baylor - 4 points
Charlotte - 2 points
Akron - 5 points
Florida - 4 points
Auburn - 3 points
Tennessee - 4 points
LSU - 6 points
Texas A&M - 10 points
Alabama - 8 points
Arkansas - 4 points

Last bracketology I saw had Michigan in the NIT at a 6 seed. We were 16-16 on the year.

I don't see them mention SC.

Exactly that would bogus. I wonder if Minnesota as the reigning champ slips in.

I didn't realize it costs teams $50,000-$75,000 to host the CBI per game....

Why do you think schools turn it down? Lol

You can have a losing record and get in. You use to need a winning record. It is possible, but not likely IMO.

Can Auburn get in the CBI if apparently nobody wants to play in it? Mason, KT, KC, Canada deserve it.

Also remember there used to be 40 bids. The last yr or two it's back down to 32 like years ago.

They would love to have an SEC team.

Sounds like we'll take it if we get an offer..

At 17-16, USC could be selected for the NIT, and if that doesn’t come calling, the College Basketball Invitational could. Coach Frank Martin said earlier in the week that he would lobby for any postseason bid and affirmed it on Friday; athletic director Ray Tanner, attending the SEC tournament, also said that USC is prepared for any postseason bid that may come its way.

“We are hopeful that maybe we get some conversation about the NIT,” Tanner said. “I did a little research on that today, and our RPI is in the vicinity. It might not be exactly where we need for it to be, but I felt, coming into this game, we were in that conversation.”

The NIT will announce its selections at 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, and the Gamecocks are perched on the bubble. What helps them is they offer an attractive arena in which to host, they played a tough schedule (No. 35), they had four wins against the Top 50 (and another, Ole Miss, was No. 54) and their RPI is 86. Generally, the RPI cutoff for an at-large NIT team is 90.
